Dr. Geiger Award
Congratulations to the Dr. Geiger Award Honoree Dr. Douglas Rahner, Chief Medical Officer, Family Health Network of Central New York. The Dr. Geiger award honors a licensed provider in New York State who is considered a leader in promoting quality health care that mirror’s Dr. Geiger’s vision as a co-founder of the national Health Center Movement. Dr. Rahner is being recognized for his leadership in creating a residency program to help address the provider workforce shortage in Central New York and his tireless work to ensure homeless patients are provided with health care, empathy, and dignity.
Catherine Abate Award
Congratulations to the Catherine Abate Awardee Award Honoree Dr. AnnMarie Zimmermann, Chief Medical Officer, Universal Primary Care. The Catherine Abate award honors a visionary leader who has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of the under-served. Dr. Zimmermann’s leadership in community outreach and education initiatives aimed at improving Women’s Health Services, preventive care, and chronic disease management has significantly enhanced the overall well-being of the Cattaraugus and Alleghany County communities in New York as well as McKean County in Pennsylvania.
Dorothy Kartashevitch Consumer Award
Congratulations to the Dorothy Kartashevitch Consumer Award Honoree Ms. Hope L. Mason, Consumer Member, Ryan Chelsea-Clinton Board of Directors. The Dorothy Kartashevitch Award honors a board member who has worked tirelessly on their center’s behalf. This award recognizes that the backbone of the community health center movement are the consumer-run boards that guide individual Community Health Centers. Ms. Mason has brought her background in healthcare leadership and advocacy to further the work of both Ryan Health and Ryan Chelsea-Clinton in service on both boards for 50 years as a champion for quantifying patient experiences and workforce development.
Lifetime Achievement Award: Dr. Neil Calman
Dr. Calman began practicing medicine in community health centers in New York City early in his career. Since 1985, Dr. Calman has been the CEO of the Institute for Family Health, which he helped to found. The organization currently serves over 100,000 patients annually in New York City and the Hudson Valley. Dr. Calman’s work has consistently focused on removing barriers to health care in communities that have been neglected due to poverty and racism. He has also supported health workforce training programs at Institute health centers, including programs in family medicine, nursing, administration and behavioral health. Under Dr. Calman’s leadership, the Institute has also become a recognized leader in leveraging health information technology to deliver high quality services. Neil has been a guiding light for multiple generations of health center leaders and has championed CHCANYS mission and vision through the decades.
Dr. Calman also received a lifetime achievement award from NACHC.
