CHCANYS Public Health AmeriCorps

The mission of CHCANYS Public Health AmeriCorps is to increase health care access and enhance workforce development through service in community health centers throughout New York State, with the goal of eliminating health disparities for the medically underserved though long-lasting sustainable projects. CHCANYS Public Health AmeriCorps is a workforce development program dedicated to preparing AmeriCorps members for careers in public health and community-based primary health care, while addressing the most pressing health care needs in communities throughout New York State.
AmeriCorps members serve in federally qualified Community Health Centers, performing direct service with patients and community residents thereby filling service gaps, increasing access to health care services, and improving utilization of services. Members provide care tailored to meet the needs of the communities they serve.
CHCANYS Public Health AmeriCorps members perform a 10-11-month term of service focused on addressing the most pressing health care challenges in our communities. Members are essential members of their Community Health Center team and a critical part of New York State’s effort to keep New Yorkers healthy.
During their term of service members will:
- Health education
- Care coordination
- Community Outreach
- Patient engagement
- Food distribution and increasing food security
- Linking patients and community residents to resources
- Emergency preparedness training and education
