Callen-Lorde is seeking a friendly, team oriented, certified Medical Assistant (MA) to join our nursing team. The MA is responsible for preparing exam rooms, assisting Medical Providers, rooming patients, taking vital signs and providing clinical support. MAs also perform lab duties including venipuncture, processing of in-house lab tests, and packing specimens for shipment. This individual is expected to maintain a high degree of professional competence and the highest possible ethical standards, ensuring patient confidentiality and function as part of a care-giving team.
As a Medical Assistant, your responsibilities will include:
- Obtain and document vital signs such as height, weight, temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
- Assist medical providers with patient preparation and support for procedures like pap smears, biopsies, STD screenings, colposcopies, and incision & drainage.
- Conduct phlebotomy services to ensure proper processing and documentation of laboratory specimens.
- Perform clinical tests including dipstick urinalysis, peak flow measurements, finger sticks for glucose, urine pregnancy testing, visual acuity tests, and EKGs.
- Manage common work areas, exam rooms, and clinical equipment, ensuring they are clean, prepared, and sterilized between visits.

Qualifications
- Medical Assistant Diploma/Certification
- Current CPR certification
- 2+ years of experience as a certified Medical Assistant in an out-patient clinical setting preferred
- Lab/phlebotomy experience
- Experience working with an Electronic Medical Record
- Strong computer competency
- Experience working with LGBT and HIV + populations strongly preferred
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred
