Union Community Health Center, one of the largest Federally Qualified Health Centers, in New York State, with six locations in Bronx NY, is seeking a dentist with community dental health interest to head up a new mobile dental unit outreach program.

With 6 sites located throughout the Bronx and a mobile health center, UCHC reaches far into the community, addressing social determinants of health and improving the overall wellness and quality of life of those we serve.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSABILITIES:
Perform pre-exam testing to include (but not be limited to) visual acuity assessment, including pinhole, corrected and uncorrected, confrontational visual field testing, assess extraocular muscles, pupillary evaluation, tonometry (eye pressure check), assess the anatomical angles of the eyes (will be trained), pupillary dilation and all other patient services as requested by the optometrist. These may include but not be limited to special tests such as color vision screening and stereopsis.
Perform lensometry and specialized testing such as visual fields, ophthalmic photography, and optical coherence tomography (OCT).
Complete requests for copies of eyeglasses prescriptions, patient educational materials. Conduct inventory of ophthalmic supplies, including pharmaceuticals, instruments, and other materials needed for patient care. Check expiration dates of pharmaceuticals and sterile supplies. Assist in patient referrals to outside providers and with pre-authorization requests for medications.
Assist with any basic maintenance of clinical equipment (eg bulbs replacement). Have foreign body/epilation removal tools sterilized when needed by the dental service. Ensure exam lanes are properly shut down, with equipment covered.
Follow safety procedures as per guidelines.
Job Requirements:
High school diploma
One year of ophthalmic experience is desirable and or experience in the medical field (will train upon hiring)
The position requires excellent interpersonal skills, professional appearance, initiative, and flexibility to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Must comply with state/national guidelines to maintain patient confidentiality.
