AmeriCorps' 30th Anniversary

The New York State Commission on National and Community Service celebrated AmeriCorps' 30th Anniversary on May 30-31 with the 2024 AmeriCorps New York Service Summit in Brooklyn, NY!

On May 30, approximately 600 AmeriCorps New York members and staff celebrated AmeriCorps' 30th Anniversary with a ceremony at the Brooklyn Bridge Marriot, featuring speakers from the Mayor's and Governor's office and testimonials from AmeriCorps members and staff.

Among the testimonials was CHCANYS AmeriCorps' alumn Michael Garcia, who talked about his experience serving at The Table at the NYU Langone in Sunset Park Family Health Center during the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020. Michael and other Members answered the AmeriCorps Pledge's call to action and provided critical services at a critical time for the Sunset Park community, going from serving 100 families a week to over 500 families during the peak of the pandemic. Four years later, Michael is now managing his own team of AmeriCorps Members at The Table in Sunset Park who continue to address food security in the community.

On May 31, 35 CHCANYS Public Health AmeriCorps members and staff joined others in service projects in Sunset Park, working with NYC Parks in caring for public spaces, park gardening, street cleaning, and tree maintenance.
