Representative Hakeem Jeffries: The Next Leader of House Democrats

House Democrats officially elected New York State Representative Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY)  as the next minority leader by unanimous consent on November 30th. This makes Representative Hakeem Jeffries the first Black lawmaker to lead a congressional party caucus.  He will succeed Nancy Pelosi, who will step down as House Democratic leader at the end of the lame-duck session.
