About the Role
Callen-Lorde Community Health Center is seeking a dynamic and compassionate Registered Dietitian - Per Diem to join our team. As a vital member of the Medical department, the Registered Dietitian will personalize nutrition care, educate and empower individuals, and contribute to community health initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
As a Registered Dietitian - Per Diem, you will be involved in a range of responsibilities, but not limited to:
- Direct Patient Care: Conduct detailed nutritional assessments. Identify nutrient deficiencies and areas for improvement. Develop and adapt personalized meal plans, provide nutrition education, and counseling. Monitor patient progress and adjust plans as needed. Offer guidance on specific medical nutrition therapy.
- Community Outreach and Education: Develop educational materials and workshops to promote healthy eating and lifestyle habits. Plan and implement community outreach programs.
- Administrative and Professional: Maintain productivity and efficiency by adhering to organizational policies and procedures. Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams to ensure seamless patient care and participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery. Accurate and timely documentation is essential for maintaining patient records and regulatory compliance.
Work Schedule:
Callen-Lorde's sites in Chelsea, Bronx, and Brooklyn . This is a per-diem position with occasional hours, including evenings.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, dietetics, or a related field required.
- NYS Licensure and Registration as a Certified Dietitian/Nutritionist
- Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) Certification from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)
- 1+ year of experience as a registered dietician is required
- Experience working with patients who may struggle with food-related behavioral changes or who have chronic illnesses.
- Ability to explain complex nutritional concepts in a way that’s easy for clients to understand.
- Ability to interpret medical information and lab results to inform nutrition care plans.
- Demonstrated experience developing practical solutions for complex dietary problems, especially in clinical settings.
- Prior experience in a social services or healthcare setting and/or a non-profit organization preferred.
- Effective communication skills with patients, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and work under stress in a dynamic environment, managing patient care needs effectively.
- Demonstrate proficiency in essential digital tools and healthcare technology including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems
- Excel in delivering patient-centered care with a strong focus on customer service, emphasizing empathy, active listening, and responsive communication.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
